MSMEs in Coimbatore Receive VR-Based Training in Energy Efficiency October 28, 2024 MSME Sampark Msme News 0 WRI India, in partnership with FaMe TN and the National Productivity Council, recently conducted a VR-based training session in Coimbatore aimed at enhancing energy efficiency for MSMEs in the auto component manufacturing sector. The session utilized a digital twin VR simulator, developed with support from German organization GIZ, to provide participants with a hands-on learning experience. P Chitra, Director of Energy Management at the National Productivity Council in Chennai, highlighted the interactive nature of the training: “With VR, participants could operate and adjust industrial equipment like pumps, fans, and compressors, observing the impact on energy consumption firsthand.” The VR simulations also introduced techniques for minimizing energy loss, such as using VF drives, adding capacitors, and reducing leakages to cut costs and emissions. Energy management expert Joel Franklin Asaria of the Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Productivity Council in Chennai explained the cost-saving potential of energy-efficient practices, stating that energy accounts for roughly 30% of total operational costs in many industries, with an achievable savings of up to 25%. “Motor-driven systems, such as pumps and compressors, use 54% of industrial electricity, and energy-efficient measures can yield significant cost reductions,” he noted. The VR-based training covered multiple systems, including fans, pumps, boilers, furnaces, and compressed air systems, enabling participants to understand technical concepts in a virtual setting. According to J P Varun, Deputy Director of Energy Management at the National Productivity Council, “This tool allows for accessible, hands-on training, addressing the challenge of limited access to physical equipment.” The event attracted a diverse group of industry representatives, including members of the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, Laghu Udyog Bharati, Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, and the Scientific and Industrial Testing and Research Centre, showcasing a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability in MSMEs across Coimbatore.
